Tauck Announces European
River Cruising Plans For 2007
NORWALK, CT (September 5, 2006) After growing its European river cruising business more than 600% in just two years, Tauck World Discovery is heading into 2007 with a new 24-day, trans-European itinerary, an earlier fall marketing effort to help Tauck agents and guests plan river voyages for the coming year, and exclusive use of one of the most luxurious river ships on Europe’s waterways; the just-launched MS Swiss Emerald.
“We’ve been incredibly successful growing our river cruising business in Europe,” said Tauck President/CEO Robin Tauck, “because we’ve been able to transfer Tauck’s unique approach to travel to a waterborne mode of transportation. The same level of quality, the same attention to detail, and the same level of inclusiveness that we’ve built into our land-based programs for 81 years are also found in our river cruises.”
Each Tauck river cruise has a maximum of just 118 guests, while groups on other similarly sized vessels typically average about 140 guests, said Tauck. The needs of Tauck’s guests are expertly catered to by three full-time Tauck Directors and an onboard Tauck Cruise Director, in addition to the ship’s staff. Included in every Tauck river cruise are all shore excursions (with a choice of sightseeing options in many cities), wine with each onboard dinner, admission to all attractions, port charges, and gratuities to ship’s staff, local guides, drivers, and all Tauck personnel. Also included are a number of “Tauck-exclusive” experiences, such as private dinners and special performances in historic palaces and chateaux.
A “GRAND EUROPEAN CRUISE”
Tauck’s new “Grand European Cruise” (from $7,530, double, plus air) travels from Amsterdam to the Black Sea along the Rhine, the Main-Danube Canal, the Main, and the Danube, with visits to nine different countries along the way. Included in the price are virtually all expenses, including two nights at the Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest and 67 meals both on and off the Swiss Emerald.
The new trip pairs two popular Tauck river journeys, “Amsterdam to Budapest” (15 days, from $4,590) and “Budapest to the Black Sea” (12 days, from $3,690). A couple traveling on the combined itinerary, however, will save a minimum of $1,000 off the price of the two journeys, if they were purchased separately. Tauck’s other river itineraries include the 13-day “Blue Danube” (from $3,790) and “Holland & Belgium in Spring” (10 days, from $3,190).
Tauck is promoting sales of its river journeys with its new 2007 color brochure, which has been expanded for next year with 25% more pages. The brochure mailed out in August to help Tauck agents and prospective clients lock-in 2007 travel plans. Last year Tauck’s 2006 river cruising brochure mailed in September.
Tauck’s 2007 river cruises will feature either the MS Swiss Diamond or the MS Swiss Emerald. Launched earlier this year, the 361-foot Swiss Emerald is decorated in teak, marble, brass, wrought iron and glass. The ship has 14 elegant luxury suites, each with 300 square-feet of living space, floor-to-ceiling windows for optimal scenery viewing, hotel-style beds, marble bath with full tub, walk-in closets, flat-screen television/DVD, mini-bar and more. The ship’s seven mini-suites and 38 staterooms are equally refined with similar décor, hotel-style beds, plasma televisions, plush terrycloth robes, slippers, and Escada toiletries.
The 332-ft. MS Swiss Diamond was partially renovated in 2006, and offers a whirlpool, sauna, solarium, and library, along with nightly entertainment including piano music, lectures, and traditional folkloric performances. The Swiss Diamond’s air conditioned cabins and suites are all outside-facing, and well appointed with a flat screen television, radio, direct-dial international telephone, bathrobes, slippers, mini-bar, Escada toiletries, and more.
