Tauck Celebrates 80th Birthday with 500 of its Most Loyal Guests

Tauck Family Hosts Gala Anniversary Cruise

NORWALK, CT (12/17/04)  Lillian Brynin’s approach to travel can be summed up in three words:  Tauck World Discovery.  The energetic New Rochelle, New York resident has traveled with Tauck an astounding 71 times.  And while Lillian’s loyalty is amazing, it’s hardly unique.  Of the guests who have traveled with Tauck in the past three years, more than 16,000 have taken at least six Tauck trips in their lifetime, and more than 80,000 have taken at least two Tauck trips.

That loyalty was very much in evidence recently when Lillian and more than 500 other dedicated Tauck fans and past guests joined Tauck family members and staff on a celebratory cruise to mark the company’s upcoming 80th anniversary.   The 5-day cruise aboard the Seven Seas Mariner, chartered by Tauck exclusively for the event, departed from Port Everglades, Florida earlier this month.  The itinerary included stops at Key West and Coco Cay, a private island in the Bahamas reserved by Tauck for the occasion.

Time with the Tauck's
Spending time with the Tauck family was high on the priority list for most of the cruise passengers.  Guests happily chatted and posed for pictures with the Taucks at cocktail parties, or attended informative travel presentations hosted by family members.  Passengers were also given a commemorative 80th anniversary book on the company’s history, and many guests waited more than half an hour to have their copy signed by company Chairman Arthur Tauck, Jr. or his daughter Robin, Tauck World Discovery’s President.  In all, 22 Tauck family members from three generations were on hand.

Guests on the cruise ranged in age from Arthur Tauck’s three-month old twin granddaughters to nonagenarian Gerald Dhooge.  The adventurous 92-year-old Dhooge, who normally moves about with the aid of a wheelchair, fulfilled a long-held dream at Coco Cay when he parasailed for the first time.

Although she’d fully anticipated that the cruise would be a success, Robin Tauck was nonetheless overwhelmed by the experience.  “It was a very special event, and I know that all the Taucks appreciated having the opportunity to personally thank so many dear friends,” she said.  “We truly have wonderful guests, and they’ve demonstrated incredible loyalty.  It was an honor for the Tauck family to celebrate a vision of customer loyalty that has endured over 8 remarkable decades.”
