Travel Weekly Names Tauck

“Best Tour Operator” In Key Categories

NORWALK, CT (December 18, 2006) Travel Weekly, the national newspaper of the travel industry, honored Tauck World Discovery during its fourth annual Readers Choice Awards at a gala black-tie dinner and ceremony at The Pierre Hotel in Manhattan recently.

Tauck received awards for “Best Tour Operator – Europe,” and “Best Tour Operator – Canada.” The awards recognize Tauck’s excellence in its two largest and most important markets. The Norwalk-based company operates 39 different upscale, in-depth, escorted itineraries in Europe, and 32 in North America.

“We’re very pleased to be honored by Travel Weekly,” said Tauck Chairman Arthur Tauck, Jr., “particularly in two areas that have such strong ties to our company’s heritage.” Tauck’s very first tour in 1925, operated by founder Arthur Tauck, Sr., included southeastern Canada, and the company has been bringing guests to Canada ever since. In 1991, Arthur Tauck Jr. launched the company’s first “Yellow Roads of Europe” tours, which eschew major highways and instead deliver a more authentic experience by exploring scenic towns and villages along picturesque secondary roads, which are typically highlighted in yellow on European road maps.

“This is the industry insiders’ award,” said Arnie Weissmann, editor in chief, of the Travel Weekly honors. “Travel Weekly’s readership understands what it takes to ‘wow’ a traveler. Not only are the travel professionals who vote avid travelers themselves, but they also hear first-hand the unvarnished truth – the compliments and complaints – from thousands of American consumers.

Tauck and the other award recipients were selected by the readers of Travel Weekly. These distinctive and widely recognized awards are presented annually to the industry’s suppliers who led the way in product and service during the past year. The open ballot phase of the voting was conducted in the summer. Readers were invited to write in the names of any company they chose in a category. The leading vote-getters were identified as finalists, and voting on finalists took place through Oct. 31, 2006.

Based in Secaucus, N.J., Travel Weekly is the nation’s leading business-to-business information source for the travel industry, reaching some 180,000 readers in the industry each week.
