2009 Itinerary


Day 1 – Arrive Halifax
Your Canadian Maritimes tour including a Nova Scotia cruise begins at the Delta Barrington at 6:00 PM. A transfer is included from Halifax International Airport to the Delta Barrington, ideally situated in the heart of Nova Scotia's provincial capital. Meet your fellow travelers this evening at an exclusive reception, dinner and private guided tour of the renowned Citadel; this National Historic Site offers remarkable views of Halifax Harbor and the city beyond.

Day 2 – Halifax Harbor and picturesque Peggy's Cove
For a unique view of the capital of Nova Scotia cruise through Halifax Harbor this morning, the world’s second largest natural harbor; vistas of the city and the lovely area of Northwest Arm are spread out before you. Enjoy an afternoon visit to picturesque Peggy’s Cove, an idyllic fishing village that's one of the most photographed spots on the Atlantic Coast. Return to Halifax to spend the remainder of the day exploring the largest city in the Maritime Provinces, rich in galleries, museums, beautiful parks and historic restorations.

Day 3 – Nova Scotia’s Scenic Shores
Travel along Marine Drive on Nova Scotia’s eastern shore through picturesque harbors and quaint villages to Sherbrooke, a restoration of a 19th-century mining and lumber town. The remainder of the afternoon is spent enjoying the tranquil setting of the Liscombe Lodge Resort.

Day 4 – Legacy of Alexander Graham Bell and the Cabot Trail
Drive along beautiful back roads to the Canso Strait, which separates the mainland of Nova Scotia from Cape Breton Island. Visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, which contains a remarkable collection of Dr. Bell’s early inventions. Take the beautiful and beloved Cabot Trail over Cape Smokey to the picture-picture cliffside setting of your hotel on Ingonish Beach.

Day 5 - The Cabot Trail & Cape Breton Highlands National Park
If you wish, join us on an optional guided nature hike prior to a RAVEN interpretive series wildlife presentation on the area's flora and fauna. Then journey again along the rugged Cabot Trail, one of the most scenic and spectacular highways on the continent, as it winds its way through Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Arrive at your resort in Baddeck, official terminus of the Cabot Trail.

Day 6 - Exclusive evening on Prince Edward Island

Depart Cape Breton Island and cross the Canso Strait to Pictou for lunch; then it's across the Northumberland Strait and on to Prince Edward Island and its charming capital city, Charlottetown. Join us tonight for a private, exclusive evening at Founders’ Hall, an interactive museum that describes the history of Canada, Prince Edward Island and the Fathers of the Confederation – the evening is certain to be a highlight of your Canadian Maritimes tour and Nova Scotia cruise.

Day 7 - Anne of Green Gables' Prince Edward Island
Journey along the magnificent shoreline of Prince Edward Island National Park and visit Green Gables House, literary home of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s charming tale Anne of Green Gables. Tonight, attend a theatrical performance at The Charlottetown Festival, which often showcases original Canadian musical productions.

Day 8 - New Brunswick and St. Andrews-by-the-Sea
Your Canadian Maritimes tour continues as you cross the Confederation Bridge, the world’s longest bridge spanning ice-covered waters, to New Brunswick. Follow the Kennebecasis River Valley to Saint John, New Brunswick’s largest city, and arrive in beautiful St. Andrews-by-the-Sea for an overnight at The Fairmont Algonquin, celebrated for its "saltwater" baths and invigorating sea air.

Day 9 - Private cruise to FDR's Campobello IslandCampobello Island
Join us for a private catamaran cruise in the Bay of Fundy to visit Campobello Island, best known as the setting of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s beloved summer cottage. Cross into the U.S. and continue south along the Maine coast to Bar Harbor, for a two-night stay in a historic inn that was once a favorite retreat for some of the country's wealthiest vacationers.

Day 10 - Natural treasures of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor
Explore the lush forests and sheltered harbors of Acadia National Park and Mt. Desert Island, and journey to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. Spend the afternoon and evening in Bar Harbor, perhaps checking out the city's wealth of art galleries, craft shops and other attractions.

Day 11 – Nova Scotia cruise by catamaran
Your travels today begin with a Nova Scotia cruise aboard The Cat, an Australian-built high-speed catamaran, from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Then wind your way along the French Acadian shore through quaint coastal villages to your hotel in Digby. Recall the pleasures of your memorable Maritimes journey and Nova Scotia cruise at this evening's farewell dinner.

Day 12 – Back to Halifax for your journey home

Stop for a visit to Grand Pré National Historic Site en route to Halifax today for your journey home. Your wonderful Canadian Maritimes tour and Nova Scotia cruise ends at 11:45 AM at Halifax International Airport. For guests wishing to extend their stay, Tauck can arrange additional hotel nights at the Delta Barrington in Halifax. An airport transfer is included for these bookings; ask at time of booking for more information.
