2008 Itinerary


Day 1: Nova Scotia travel begins in Halifax
Tour starts at 5:00 PM at your hotel, the Delta Barrington. Kick off a week of exciting P.E.I. and Nova Scotia travel with a welcome reception at Pier 21, Gateway to Canada, which features exhibits chronicling 20th-century Canadian immigration.

Day 2: Historic Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Day 2 on Nova Scotia travel along the rugged Atlantic coast to the fishing village of Lunenburg. Established in the 18th century, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the best surviving examples of a planned British colonial settlement in North America; it’s a Nova Scotia travel highlight. You have a choice today of sightseeing - see 18th- and 19th-century wooden houses on a walking tour, or instead, visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic to gain some insights into the Maritimes' seafaring heritage. Stop in Peggy's Cove, another picturesque fishing town, then return to Halifax.

Day 3: From Nova Scotia travel to Prince Edward Island
Bid a temporary goodbye to Nova Scotia; from Caribou, Nova Scotia travel by ferry to Prince Edward Island. You'll be mesmerized immediately by many miles of beaches and rich farmland in the interior. Learn about the fragile sand dune habitat on Greenwich Peninsula, and view the salt marshes and bluffs along the coast at Prince Edward Island National Park. Arrive in the provincial capital of Charlottetown. You'll find yourself immersed in local culture this evening when you attend a musical performance of Anne of Green Gables at the Charlottetown Theatre Festival (season permitting).

Day 4: Anne of Green Gables
View the Green Gables House, the old farmhouse immortalized in Lucy Maud Montgomery's cherished 1908 novel, Anne of Green Gables. Visit Founders' Hall with state-of-the-art exhibits showcasing Canada's history. End the day with a traditional lobster dinner, a must-have experience on Tauck's Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia travel route.

Day 5: More discoveries on P.E.I.
Discover the heart and soul of Prince Edward Island as you explore secluded beaches, quaint fishing villages, stately Victorian architecture and idyllic farmland on a journey along the North Cape Coastal Drive; spend the rest of the day as you wish.

Day 6: Nova Scotia travel days once again
As your Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia travel adventure continues, cross the Confederation Bridge to New Brunswick and on to Nova Scotia. Journey to Annapolis Royal to see the Fort Anne National Historic Site (may be switched to Day 7), and visit the Habitation at Port Royal National Historic Site, dating back to the early 17th century. A two-night stay at a golf resort in Digby, built in 1929 overlooking the Annapolis basin, includes a special RAVEN-series wildlife presentation.

Day 7: Whale watching, Nova Scotia travel gem
Wonder at nature on Digby Neck, a long peninsula offering world-renowned whale and bird watching. Pursue your own interests in the afternoon, and then attend the farewell cocktail reception and dinner tonight.

Day 8: Acadian saga marks the end of P.E.I. and Nova Scotia travel
Travel through rich Annapolis Valley farmland to Grand-Pré National Historic Site, where the British deported the French Acadians in 1755. The incident inspired Henry Wadsworth Longfellow to write his famous poem, Evangeline. Your Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia travel adventure ends at Halifax International Airport at 11:45 a.m.
